First review of Flashback Player 1.1

Tom from iphoneotaku.com mailed us and asked about the 1.1 update, and we decided to get some early feedback from one of the “critics” out there.
You can look at the 1.1 review here: www.iphoneotaku.com
Tnx to Tom!

Great work.
One thing, on the Save/Load game screen, I would like to see a confirm prompt. It’s way too easy to overwrite a save with a misguided finger(Doh!).
When will we see Zarch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zarch) for the iPhone? Now that would be retro accelerometer genius. I so hope someone, somewhere is working on it ;D
When is this update going to finally go live on iTunes?
The only version available is still 1.0…
@alpha - it´s hard to say as it´s up to Apple. We´ve submitted it and can do nothing else but wait for Apple to approve it.
I hear they’re no longer accepting apps that aren’t verified to work with the upcoming OS 3.0. Hopefully that’s not why it’s being delayed.
@alpha - it´s not really delayed yet, and we actually tested on 3.0 so we should be safe ![]()
From what I’ve heard version 1.1 still has a lot of the previous errors from 1.0. When do you think that you will have a decent update that brings this game nearer to the original Flashback that we all love & know? Wouldn’t it have been more prudent to have waited until the game was properly ready, instead of rushing it out & ruining peoples memories of an excellent game?
I think Hatori Hanzo over at iPhone Otaku is either part of the development team at manomio, or he’s been paid to pitch such a positive review. Because 1.1 is still very flawed, I feel cheated by purchasing this, I was obviously hoping to re-live my memories of Flashback on my iPhone, alas I was wrong. I hope update 1.2 is out soon. Until then I’ll fire up my version of Flashback on my SNES…
Scott: How about you play the 1.1 build of game first before forming yourself a misinformed opinion based on supposition?
P.Moon: How did you get your hands on the 1.1 version of the game to make such harsh criticisms considering IT HAS NOT YET HIT ITUNES?
Then again you probably think I’m also getting paid to call you out… Carry on.
@scott - you heard wrong - we solved most known issues in version 1.1 and I doubt that that’s what you “heard” as the only public review of it is the posted link in this thread. No one else besides Hatori, me, Stuart and a handful of friends tested it out yet.
@p.moon - I hate the world too
- 1.1 is not out yet - you haven´t tried it - you´ll be surprised and maybe even happy when you see it.
Why dont´t you drop a mail to me personally (brian at manomio) and I´ll put you on the beta team - this way you can help us helping you? We would love your constructive input!!
And that Hatori should be part of manomio or getting payed… well… I really don´t know about that, but I know for sure that Elvis is still alive ![]()
Be patient out there, we really want to do this right and make it up to you guys!
1.1 is out!! wahoo
@Dan,
Yes 1.1 is out, as i’ve been saying…
@lyscarz,
I know I’m a grumpy sod!
But I was really looking forward to Flashback on iPhone & really do wish it was given more care & attention so it was received with a more positive critique. sorry guy’s… I really do want to see this work! ![]()
Any chance of a price drop?
@p.moon
Yes, and so do we. We think it really works great in version 1.1 now and would love to hear what you think could be better, plz.
We´ll of course not leave it as it is, but continue making it better. The version 1.2 is in progress and should have left/right controls, keyboard to input codes etc. and if we can get any good inputs on how to improve controls even more - they´ll be in too.
@Steve-O
Yes, there´s always a chance
- We´ll probably drop a LITE soon at least for users to try it out before they buy.
Downloaded the update today and played it for a while - awesome job guys. There’s really not much that can be done to improve the way a side scrolling platformer plays, really. I’d probably agree with what someone else posted on your other entry for diagonal d-pad (faux joystick) angle since it doesn’t really serve a purpose to my knowledge, but other than that, I think it’s a vast, vast improvement over the 1.0 version and am extremely happy to have this on my iPhone. Pat yourselves on the back guys, job well done!
Now please get the powers that be to realize that we’re craving Another World and to give it a green light ASAP!!
@alpha
Sounds great - We´re working on a version 1.2 to be out soon, where we´ll address that issue and a few others. Plus hopefully do a user customizable control layout.
And for AW, well it´s a long story - but don´t expect to see this game out from manomio :/
I can confirm though that the game WILL be out for iPhone in the not so distant future.
I think there is a bug in the second level. The job where you have to replace the card in one of the three terminals. I select the card but I’m not able to insert it in the terminal. The A touch works and tell me there is a place to insert the card. But the “use” touch doesn’t work. Does someone encounter the same problem ?
I verified that the card can be inserted into the terminal - like the original, you had to be in the exact spot, which is to the right of the reactor. Make sure you have selected the card from your ITEMS / inventory. You must press the USE button to insert the card.

I must admit I was looking forward to this release, especially being a scjp certification fan of the original. But I must say I am dissapointed with this lackluster port… The failings of this mcts
port are many, but what strikes me as being the worst are the controls. A game like this requires an exceptional control method scwcd dumps
for it to be fun & enjoyable, perhaps you can address this in a future update? As it stands with this control method the game is frankly unplayable.
